Message from Founder/Designer Aly Samabaly to the World
I am sure most of you at some point in your life, have seen or heard on the television, the daily and nightly news about how bad and full of disease Africa is. Here is something most of you have not seen or heard a lot of on the news: Africa is a very beautiful place full of life, smiles and colors. Yes, millions of people are suffering and dying, but not just from AIDS or war, but also from the common cold. The cold could be cured with just a couple of pills, but many people in Africa do not have access to medication and they end up dying. People are also dying from not having clean water, hygienic restrooms, nutritious food, and from a lack of education.
I remember as a kid, back in Africa, when my mother was away on a business trip, my family didn’t have anything to eat for days, sometimes weeks. We would climb trees to get mangoes from the neighborhood or boil some potatoes that we dug up from the earth. We would then stand next to our neighbor’s kitchen so that we could smell their food and eat our mangoes and potatoes. I also remember walking miles every day to get water from a pump that the entire village used. I witnessed many fights, because we only had one pump for thousands of people. I know how it feels to run without shoes, to be without news clothes, a bookbag, notebooks, or pens on the first day of school.
